3 Accord of Winchester
Accord of Winchester signed 1072 by William the Conqueror & his wife.
This elevated Canterbury over York as to whose archbishop would be the highest primate in England. The large Xs are the 'signatures' of William & Matilda, the one under theirs is Lanfranc's, and the other bishops' are under his.

Adml Sir John Orde
Adml Sir John Orde
Painted by George Romney, 1734-1802.
This painting was on sale at Bonhams in 2005, it was identified as being painted by Romney, and the sitter was Sir John Campbell Orde.
This is not possible, as Sir John Campbell Orde was not alive in Romney's lifetime. I am now guessing, based on Romney's dates of 1734-1802, that the subject could only be Adml.…

Alice Chaucer
Alice's son, John, the second Duke of Suffolk, at her death in 1475, placed in the church at Ewelme a most exquisite tomb to honor his mother. Sculpted out of alabaster it shows Alice in nun's garb and beneath her, again sculpted in alabaster, lies her cadaver in death, partly wrapped in its shroud, as a momento mori.
